Newark Golf Club

A valiant effort

A valiant effort by Graeme Macdonald and Rina Ozolins of Newark Golf Club on their defence of the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs County Mixed Championship held at Newark Golf Club Wednesday 17th June.  Graeme and Rina won the event last year at Coxmoor Golf Club with an impressive 47 points.

A very wet Wednesday saw 100 players take to the well presented course at Newark, despite the bad conditions.  The greenkeepers kept a close eye on the greens, as persistent wet weather was threatening course closure!

The morning tee times saw the worst of the conditions, and the Newark pair had nearly two hours in the rain.  Afternoon players were lucky enough to get round dry.

The overall winners Brian Snape and Diane Payne of The Nottinghamshire Golf Club scored 42 points, and Graeme and Rina managed a creditable third place with 41 points.  Still first and third over the last two years is a great result.

Bring on 2020 when the competition will be played at Stanton on the Wolds!
