Tennis in the fog

Newark Tennis Clubs mixed teams were out in force on Sunday  as the 1st team welcomed Eastwood for an early morning & foggy match. 1st pair Sam Smith/Sara Jackson started strong with 7-5/9-3 wins but settled for 6-6 in the final round when the sun came out and changed playing conditions.

3rd Pair James Lalyk/Tamara Bainbridge were just as successful beating Eastwood 2nd & 3rd pairs with 7-5 & 9-3 wins but fell to a strong first pair 5-7.

Adrian/Steph Smith remained consistent, again only falling 5-7 to Eastwood 1st (overall score 62-46). The team remain top of Div 7 after winning all 4 of their winter matches and already have promotion in sight with 2 games remaining.

The Mixed 2nd travelled to Attenborough with hopes of another win in Div 9 but it’s wasn’t to be with a 50-58 loss. 1st pair Katrina Dines/Sam Butler were most successful, winning all of their games (23-13), 2nd pair Annie Walton/Mal Langley beat Attenborough 3rd pair but were the wrong side of a 7-5/8-4 (17-19) while 3rd pair Jill Pindar/David Martin supported the team with a 10-26. Mixed 2nd sit mid table as they near the end of the season.
