Newark Striders

Graham Welsh reports

There were 10K night runs at Rutland Water on both Friday and Saturday evenings and Stephen Tomlinson was there on Friday, completing the course in 55:08. Sarah-Jane Cobb, Stacey Atkins and Nick Beveridge took part on Saturday evening, Nick 46:56, Stacey 1:09:19, Sarah-Jane 1:09:36. Despite the evening racing, all four ran Parkrun on Saturday morning along with many other Striders. We had eight PB times at Newark Parkrun, one at Clumber Park and a group of tourists travelled to Oakwell Hall Parkrun in Leeds.

On Sunday Lewis Hopkinson and Steve Martin travelled to the Lincolnshire Fens for the Long Sutton 10K. Lew was delighted to go under 37 minutes for the first time, finishing 12th overall in a new PB of 36:46 whilst Steve also had a strong run crossing the line in 44:56, not far outside his fastest time.

Finally, preceded by the final plogging session of the year, there was a big turnout for the first of the 2019 Newark Half Marathon All Club runs and the orange shirts were out in force amongst the group. Once Philippa had briefed us on the 7K and 10K options, we had an enjoyable and sociable run as the mist cleared and the sun came out, followed by a cuppa at Rumbles.
