Newark Striders

A great turnout at Parkrun

As usual, we had a great turnout at Parkrun on Saturday, but 15 Newark Striders chose to take on the Belvoir Challenge instead, a tough event made enjoyable by the fact that energy gels and sports drinks are replaced by cake, supplemented in some cases with beer! There are two challenge distances, 15 miles and 26 miles. In the 26 mile, Nige Driscoll finished in 5:37:14, Cate Driscoll 6:17:17, Simon Palmer 6:17:31, Jacqui Jackson 6:23:02, Jason Cobb 6:23:11, Stacey Atkins 7:44:21 and Philippa Clarke 7:44:25. Nick Beveridge was first home in the 15 mile with a time of 2:35:12, followed by Sara Carter 3:00:26, David Daubney 3:12:44, Steven Padgett 3:12:48, Nicola Bradley 3:12:48, Anthea Moisey 4:36:02, Sarah-Jane Cobb 4:36:03 and Jenny Palmer 4:36:04.

On to Sunday, and we start with the Cambridge Half Marathon. Simon Roberts 1:29:20 was first to finish for Newark Striders with Steve Martin coming in with a time of 1:45:14.

Next to the Ashbourne 10K and it was great to see Gemma Latham back in race action. Gemma finished in 1:07:26 and it was a family outing with husband Steve doing his first 10K and Gemma's sister also taking part.

Meanwhile at Rushcliffe, there were 5K and 10K races. In the 10K, Peter Davis was first back in 46:24, followed by Steve Gurd 49:03, Stephen Tomlinson 52:29, Bernie Divall 1:05:16 and Kirsty Ballinger 1:12:16. Tomo also did the 5K, which he completed in 28:28.

We finish up in Bakewell where Emma Gilbert took part in round 1 of the Dark and White Peak Spring Trail Run series. The event was 15.2 KM, which Emma did in 1:34 earning a silver timing award.

Well done everyone!
