Newark Striders

Stephen’s busy Easter

We start this week's round up with news from Good Friday. Stephen Tomlinson was at the Yorkshire coast for the Bridlington Easter 5 mile Dash, which he completed in 41:36.

Saturday was Parkrun day, and we participated in events at Boston, Braunstone, Harlow, Bakewell, Rutland Water and of course Newark where there were PBs for Jason Priest, Mary Swindles, Izzy Wheeldon, Emma Smith, Andrew Wheeldon and where Strider Brian Thompson was volunteering as Run Director for the 50th time.

Easter Sunday saw a super turnout for the Newark Half Marathon All Clubs run in sunny conditions. A few ran the 12 mile option, but given the marathon season and very warm conditions, most opted for the 6 mile route

On to Easter Monday and Jean-Louis Balestra travelled to Yorkshire for the Ackworth Half Marathon. He described the event as very well organised and the route stunning, and crossed the finishing line 1:41:10. Stephen Tomlinson was in action again, this time in the Peak Rail 7, in which runners have 56 minutes to beat a steam train full of family and supporters from Rowsley to Matlock and back, running 7 miles on an extension of the Monsal Trail. 1:00:00 for Tomo, so one up for the train this year I'm afraid.
