A busy week

This week's news starts with race 1 of the Lincoln Wellington 5K series which was on Tuesday evening. Dave Dews was the first of the 3 Striders to finish, going under 20 minutes for the first time with 19:54 PB. Peter Davis was next with 22:26 and Stephen Tomlinson finished in 23:09 PB.

Wednesday evening and it was the second race in the Notts AAA summer series, the Newark round, now extended to an official 10K course, thus qualifying for PBs. 27 Striders were amongst the hundreds of runners who gathered on the cycle track. In the women's race Danielle Forsey was first back in 46:23, followed by Philippa Clarke 48:31, Nicola Bradley 50:12 PB, Jess Gordon 51:13, Niceeta Padgett 56:39, Dawn Hollingworth 57:08 and Karen Illsley 57:10. Next came Nicole Henderson 59:02 PB, Kath Scott 59:03, Tracey Partridge 59:04 PB Lesley Butlin 60:06 PB, Anthea Moisey 64:02 and Gemma Latham 66:49. Lewis Hopkinson was first for the men, 11th finisher overall with 35:42 PB. David Robinson recorded 38:31 PB, Matt Silk 40:39, David Cross 41:57, David Fowler 44:34, Noel Henderson 45:05 and Peter Davis first in age group at 47:22. Nick Beveridge was next in 48:30, Michael Hancock 49:23 PB, Graham Welsh 51:12, Stephen Tomlinson 51:38, Steve White 52:11, Jason Priest 53:31 and Andy Sirrs 56:39.

On to Friday and Simon Roberts was in track action at Boston, racing in the Tommy Clay Development Series 2019. He was 2nd of the 6 entrants in the 1500M event with a time of 4:55.

Saturday is Parkrun day and there was a good turnout of Striders running and helping Newark Parkrun celebrate it's 6 birthday. Additionally, we were at Brundell, where Gemma Latham completed her 100th Parkrun, Parke, Wakefield, Wotton and in Denmark too where Andy Scott ran the Vejen Parkrun.

 Sunday and Lewis Hopkinson was north of the border, racing in the Rattray Blair Half Marathon, which he described as the hardest race he's ever done with 420 metres of 'uphill'. Lew finished 7th overall and 1st in age category with a watch time of 1:29:44. Peter Davis was also running the 13.1 mile distance, he was taking part in the Hull Half Marathon which is an England Athletics masters/veterans qualifying event. Peter finished in 1:47:12, 4th in age group.

There were 16 Striders at the popular Woodhall Spa 10K, where conditions were hot and windy, not ideal for fast times. Simon Roberts was first to finish, in 30th place overall with a time of 38:37. David Cross was next over the line with 41:02, then Simon Palmer 46:03, Graham Welsh 47:56, Nick Beveridge 49:02, Steve White 49:44, Stephen Tomlinson 52:44 and Jason Priest 53:54. Niceeta Padgett was first lady, crossing the line in 56:17, then Karen Illsley 58:00, Geoff Riley 58:13, Helen McGrory 1:00:34. Tom Jordan 1:03:18, Anthea Moisey 1:08:53 and Jenny Palmer 1:09:03.

Becky Clift was in the Clumber Park 10K, where it was also warm for running, finishing in a time of 59:06. In Norfolk, Gemma Latham took on the Mike Groves 10K and completed the course in 1:06:03.
