Newark Striders

Thunder run weekend

It was Thunder Run weekend, and 15 Newark Striders and 1 dog were at Catton Park for the 2019 event, which entails doing as many 10K laps of the tough, hilly off-road course as possible in 24 hours as pairs, teams or as solo competitors. A heavy shower led to some very slippery, muddy conditions on Saturday afternoon and overnight, so it was doubly challenging. Well done to those in the 24 hour event, Bev Hancock, Nige Driscoll, Cate Driscoll, Andy Scott, Tom Jordan, Tom Spelman, Sarah-Jane Cobb, Stacey Atkins, Mark Jackson, Graham Welsh, Jacqui Jackson, Niceeta Padgett, Steve Padgett, John Palmer with 7 laps in the race plus one extra before the start just for luck. Clare Stainton had a good run in the standalone 10K race.

At the Great Grimsby 10K, Simon Roberts was 72nd from 3038 finishers in 38:16, followed by Stephen Tomlinson 52:07, Steven White 56:28, Anthea Moisey 1:03:41, Jenny Palmer 1:03:45, Lisa White 1:18:47. Steve Martin was also in 10K action, at Run Norwich 2019 where he finished with a time of 48:13.

Parkrun, and we had Striders at Clarisford, Lincoln, Conkers, Sherwood Pines, Lingwood and Newark, where Lesley Butlin celebrated her 100th Parkrun.
