Another great day for Amelia

Brilliant Bronze for Amelia!

Today (Saturday 7th Jan) Amelia raced in the combined Nottinghamshire and Debryshire AAA County Championships at Wollaton Park in Nottingham. The athletes raced together but would be separated into their respective counties at the end of the race. Amelia was racing a year under in the in the U13 category. This meant, as she is only 11 years old, she would not only be lining up in a strong field of the best runners in Nottinghamshire, but also against some athletes already 13 years old.

The race was a 3km 2 lap course incorporating two large hills. Amelia did not have the best of starts as she was barged and elbowed a little but soon settled  after around 200m and started on the large hill for the first time in around 10th position. She was running  well and started picking her way through the field and when she came around to the large hill for the second time she was with two other runners in the 2nd,3rd and 4th positions.

The girl in 1st position was never going to be caught but Amelia and one of the other runners worked well together constantly overtaking each other for 2nd and 3rd position for the last 1200m of the course pulling away from the remainder of the field. Amelia pushed herself and manged to cross the line in a fantastic 3rd place picking up a brilliant bronze medal. This result means she has now been selected represent the Nottinghamshire County Team in the UK  CAU Inter Counties XC Championships in March.
