Silver this week for Arthur

Another busy weekend

This weekend saw another good performance from Arthur Eakin at the Wrexham U13 Leon Paul Junior Series competition. He lost two matches in his first poule, to familiar opponents Luca  Businaro of ZFW and local fencer Callum Evans of Salle Scipanovs. However, the second poule resulted in a 100% win ratio.  Arthur learnt from his poule defeats by beating Luca in L8 and Callum in the semi-final. However, number 1 fencer in the LPJS U13 men's foil rankings, Sebastian Beardmore-Esteban avenged his loss in the final last week in  Cardiff  to take the gold medal this week.  It's clear, however, that the boys are enjoying their rivalry:

Meanwhile, Ethan Dakin didn't quite manage to medal this week, going out in L8 to Henry Stirling of Sussex House.

Ed Howlett and James Rutherford were fencing in the U20 Championships this week. James (somewhat rusty after a break) won 3 and lost 3 in his poule. Ed  was back on form with 6 comfortable wins in his poule, putting him 3rd in the seedings for the DE. Both had byes in L128. James went out in L64 to L8 finisher Harry Gray of Chichester Fencing Club. Ed fenced confidently to  beat Liam Tate of Lazlos 15-3. The form book went out of the window in L32, as Ed rushed his attacks to go out 13-15 to Duncan Ashby of St Benedict's, London, to finish 17th from 83 fencers. This strange U20 season continued to perplex, as 3 of the top 5 U20 fencers (including Ed and Ashby's brother) went out in L32 and 1 went out in L16. The final top 5 fencer (who fences full time), won the Championship.
