Squash club finish season on a high

All the news from the Grove Squash Club

First Team.

In Division 1 of the Nottinghamshire League the first team have secured the league status with 3 wins out of their last 5 games. They came by way of a 4-1 win at Clifton Park, with Steve Brown, Chris Gibbons and Richard Speed and a walk over securing the points, a 4-1 home win against Trent Bridge 3 with Gibbons and Speed being Joined by Andy Sayers and Paul Burrell in and a 3-2 home victory against Nottingham 2 with Gibbons and Burrell again winning this time supported by Ashley Brookes. The defeats were away at table topping Chilwell and at home to Racketeers 2. The results leave them in sixth place in the table and in the individual rankings Captain Chris Gibbons finished a fine 3rd placed.

 

Second Team.

 Despite also winning 3 out of their last 5 matches in Division 3 the second team look like finishing a close 3rdbehind run away leaders Racketeers 2 and a close second behind Southwell 4. The victories came against Sutton at home with Mark Chester, Andy Sayers, Craig Drury, Paul Drury and Barrie Saye winning their respective matches in the 5-0 score line, Park Pinks again at home 3-2 with Sayers and Paul Drury being joined by Christian Cardenas and a 4-1 away triumph at Rushcliffe3 with Paul Allen joining Cardenas, Sayers and Paul Drury in winning their games. The defeats came against Racketeers 2 and Chilwell 3. In the individual rankings Christian Cardenas finished 5th and Paul Allen 8th.

 

Third Team.

 In Division 5 the third team are hitting some good form winning their last 3 matches. These came via a 4-1 away win at Rushcliffe 5 with Jamie Groden, Jack Peterkin, Adam Whitney and James Cockerton winning their games, also 4-1 away at Trent University Students with Groden, Peterkin and Cockerton being joined by Adam Flinders and another 4-1 home victory against Nottingham University Ladies with Cockerton and Whitney being joined by Martin O’Connell and a forfeit in securing the points. With two games remaining of their first season in the league the team can look forward next year to pushing on with the addition of some new players. In the individual rankings Jamie Groden was the highest placed Grove player.

 

Lincoln League.

 With one game remaining in their debut season in Lincoln Premier League the team look set to finish second bottom but may avoid the drop as one team has dropped out mid-season. The last 3 games have seen a win against Eastgate C by a 4-1 score line with Mark Chester, Steve Brown, Paul Drury and Barrie Saye winning their respective matches with the defeats coming against Ruston E and Horncastle B.  Christian Cardenas finished the highest ranked Grove player.
