Squash Club Update

it's been a mixed start to the season for the Grove Squash Club, Paul Drury tells all;

First Team.

The First Team in Division 1 of the Nottinghamshire League have found life difficult in the opening month of the new season losing their opening 3 matches. The first a narrow 3-2 defeat against Nottingham University 2 with Chris Gibbons and Ashley Brooks winning their respective ties, the second a more resounding 5-0 defeat against Trent Bridge 2 and the third a 4-1 loss against Chilwell 1 with Second teamer Christian Cardenas the only one winning his match.

 

Second Team.

Things are looking a lot brighter in Division 3 where the Second Team sit at the top having won their opening 3 games. The victories have come against Southwell 3 with Paul Allen, Christian Cardenas, Craig Drury and Barrie Saye winning their respective games in the 4-1 win, the second away at University 4 with Mark Chester, Christian Cardenas winning and Paul Drury and Barrie Saye both coming out on top of gruelling 3-2 marathons. The third was a more routine 4-1 win against Southwell 4 with Paul Allen, Paul & Craig Drury and Cardenas winning their respective matches.

 

Third Team.

In Division 5 the newly formed Third Team have started life well winning their opening 2 games. The first being a resounding 5-0 win away at University Ladies with Jamie Groden, Dave Grant, Steve Knowlton-Rayner, Jack Peterkin and Nick Mumby all winning their games 3-0 and the second a hard fought 3-2 win against Southwell 5 with Knowlton-Rayner, Grant and Groden again picking up the points. The results leave the team currently sitting in third place.

 

Lincoln League.

In the Lincoln Premier League the newly promoted team are finding it hard coming to terms with the increase in standard losing their opening two games. The first match against Deans Sports & Leisure ending in a 5-0 reversal with Paul Allen, Steve Brown and Christian Cardenas picking up individual games all losing 3-1 and the second against a very strong Eastgate G side again losing 5-0 with Craig Drury and again Cardenas picking up individual points in their respective games. They have also been knocked out of the Handicap Cup losing narrowly 3-2 against David Lloyd 3 with Paul Allen & Paul Drury winning their matches.
