Squash Season starts well

Five teams competing, not to mention the juniors

First Team.

The Grove 1st Team sit proudly at the top of Nottinghamshire Division 2 having won two and lost two of their opening 4 matches. The victories both came at home against Racketeers 2 and Southwell 1. Chris Gibbons And Paul Burrell have been the backbone of the team winning all 4 of their matches with Gibbons not dropping a single leg. The two defeats came at Nottingham University 2 and Rushcliffe 2 who both sit close behind the Grove having games in hand.

Second Team.

Following last season’s relegation to Division 3 the 2nd Team under the new leadership of Paul “Hedge” Allen have got off to a slow start having lost 2 of their opening 3 games, although arguably to two of the promotion favourites Sutton 2 and Trent University Students 2. . The solitary win came against Rushcliffe 4 by a score line of  3-2 with Mark Chester, Andy Sayers and Paul Nolan-Fyfe winning their respective matches. Sayers has continued his good form from last season winning 2 out of the 3 games he has played.

Third Team.

The 3rd Team who are also in Division 3 have started slightly better winning 2 out of their first 3 games, the one defeat also coming against Sutton 2. The victories came against Southwell 2 and Chilwell 2, with Tom Breffitt and Ben Taylor winning both their matches. Taylor also won his in the defeat against Sutton to maintain his 100% start to the season. They currently sit third in the table with the eagerly awaited derby against Grove 2 at the end on month to look forward to.

Fourth Team

The 4th Team who got promoted last season from the Introduction league to division 5 have got off to a steady start with 1 win and two defeats in their opening 3 matches. The victory came against Southwell 4 with Oliver Stewart, Jamie Growden, James Cockerton and Jack Peterken completing the 4-1 score line. With useful points being picked up in the matches which they lost they are currently sitting in forth position in the table.

 

Fifth Team

The newly formed 5th team which is mainly made up of players from the Club Night and Ladies sections are finding it difficult coming to terms with team squash with it being a new experience for most of them. Whilst losing their opening 3 games 

they have picked up points in all of them with the highlights being victories for captain Brett De Angelis, Adam Whitney and Martin O’Connell. They team will gain from their endeavours and get stronger as the season goes along and all are enjoying the new experience of team squash.

 

Juniors

Three of the clubs juniors have been selected for the combined Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire county squads. Eli and Jeb De Angelis in the under 11’s and Max James in the under 13’s. The three all take part in the clubs Friday Night Coaching sessions which has around 20 juniors between the ages of 7 to 15 year’s old regularly attending led by club coach Brett De Angelis.
