Hot And Dusty

Cracking racing at Northamption International Raceway World Championship Qualifying Meeting

Easter Monday at Northampton Raceway was hot and dusty with the Brisca V8 Stock car World Qualifier, National Ministox Championship Qualifier and Unlimited National Bangers World Series meeting. The sunny Bank Holiday drew a good crowd of spectators who were thoroughly entertained with some spectacular racing.

MDS Racing were looking to add to the world championship points gained at Mildenhall, but after the dust at last year’s racing here were uncertain how the new track surface would perform.

Their concerns proved unfounded with some very fast racing on the new surface, that although slippery after watering to keep the dust down soon provided a dry racing line. Starting from row three of the grid Dave raced well with the car turning in to the corners and handling well with the new set up. After leading the race for several laps he was caught by the higher grade drivers but battled well and escaped the crashes and spin offs to finish in 12th place to gain another championship point.

Heat two provided just as much excitement and a lot of carnage with engines blown and shunts, which Dave escaped. Dave looked to be in the points but was declared not to be. The result of this race is still to be confirmed due to technical problems in race control which lost all the transponder readings.

The next race was the final which meant that double points were up for grabs. Good hard racing put Dave up front battling with the leaders for all the twenty laps to gain a well earned tenth place and another four points.

A quick check of the car and refuel had him out for the last race – the Grand National.  Now used to the track surface and happy with the car Dave kept the momentum going in a fast race that saw yet another driver blow his engine as everyone battled for places.  The end of the race and Dave had held onto ninth place for yet another six championship points.

To make an excellent race day even better Dave was presented with a grade award for the highest scoring white grade driver.

The next meeting will be at Birmingham Raceway on Saturday 4th May
