Striders News with Graham Welsh

Newark Striders Running Club

We begin this week’s report with half marathon news and Richard Scott, Danielle Forsey and Jean-Louis Balestra were amongst the starters in the Derby Half Marathon. Richard completed the course in 1:39:10, Danielle 1:40:08 and Jean-Louis 1:51:00. Sara Whittaker was in half marathon action too, participating in the Race for Life – Leeds Trail Half Marathon with rough terrain and 941ft of climbing to contend with, coming home in a time of 2:48:52.

Turning our attention to the 10K distance, 13 Newark Striders took part in the Woodhall Spa 10K, it’s a fast and flat course and a few of us fancied our chances of breaking our personal best times despite the energy sapping warm and muggy conditions. Jan Bailey was first home for Newark Striders, finishing 7th overall in a superb 34:55, carving over a minute off his PB. Lewis Hopkinson was 31st with a time of 38:25, followed by Simon Roberts who joined the sub 40 minute club finishing 49th of the 1146 finishers with a new PB of 39:16. Nick Beveridge 45:40 was next to finish, then Emma Gilbert 46:25, Graham Welsh 48:56, Philippa Clarke 49:48, Richard Downs 52:33, Jason Priest 55:15, Stephen Tomlinson 55:58, Sally Priest 1:13:34 PB, Donna Beveridge 1:13:34 and a debut Striders 10K for  Kaley Riley 1:14:06. At the Northumberland coast Bernie Divall completed the Bamburgh 10K in 1:01:19.

Finally, Stacey Atkins spent the weekend at Blenheim Palace tackling the Weekend Warrior, the aim of which is simple... complete as many sprint distance triathlons as possible in 2 days and collect a medal each time... 5 in all for Stacey, 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.
