Striders news

All the gossip from a busy weekend for the Striders

Saturday saw Karen Hichisson racing in the Ashbourne 10K where she finished in 56:04 and took first place in her age category.

Onto Sunday and we begin in the capital where Striders Bernie Divall and Anthea Moisey ran the London Landmarks Half Marathon. Bernie finished in 2:21:07, slicing 4 minutes off her PB and Anthea had a great race too, knocking 6 minutes off her PB, set only a fortnight ago at Retford, crossing the line in 2:33:46. Lewis Hopkinson has been in great form of late and Sunday was no exception; he gained a new personal best time at the Gainsborough & Morton 10K event, coming home in 37:07. The Rushcliffe 10K attracted 3 Newark Striders and the personal best times were tumbling there too. Jan Bailey finished fifth overall and was first in  his age category, flying round in a new PB time of 36:14, next came Peter Davis, winning his age category in 47:06, followed by Geoff Riley in 54:10 PB.

Also at Rushcliffe, new members Kaley Riley, Henrietta McCabe and Sarah Stuart ran in the 5K event. Over at Clumber Park, Adam Clarke, Ruth Tall, Hannah Thomson and Katie Gabbitas  took part in the Trust 10K. Further afield Nick Harrison was branching out, taking part in his first mini-triathlon event at Skipton. Finally, an update on long distance training; with the spring marathons fast approaching, this was the last long run for many participants prior to the big day.

The training group covered over 300 miles between them as many Striders ran their longest distance ever, pushing up to 20 miles and beyond with an impromptu first time over the marathon distance for one over enthusiastic runner.
