Striders "peak" in Yorkshire

Newark Striders take on Yorkshire

Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge
Report by Dave Tilley.

A group of like minded runners from Newark took part in a running challenge organised by Dave Tilley at the weekend. Thirteen runners braved extreme weather conditions to conquer the peaks which consisted of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough fells.
The challenge started at 06:00 am running with head torches until day break, the group met at the first summit for a photo stopping only momentarily due to freezing conditions, they then proceeded in small groups onto the next summits. The weather conditions were extreme snow sometimes waist deep sapped the energy from everyone. Whrenside  the second summit was met by a white out resulting in poor visibility and frost bite conditions, it was important to keep moving forward as stopping could have resulted in hypothermia. After completing the final summit in similar conditions everyone checked in at the pub arriving safely suffering from mental and physical exhaustion.
A well earned drink was welcomed before the long drive back to Newark. Dave advised that if we were to organise the challenge again it would be in the summer time with more day light hours and hopefully warmer weather. A great achievement for everyone involved.
Congratulations to Dave Tilley, Stacey Atkins Dan Stephen, Lewis Hopkinson, Peter Parker, Mark Jackson, Richard Scott Joe Stanley,  Jon Rawson,  Jess Gordon, Andy Scott, Jason, Priest   Amy Rawson and Simba.
