Newark Castle Cycling Club

At the season opening time trial event of Newark Castle Cycling Club, 7 enthusiastic soles braved the cool, windy conditions last Sunday.  A hard riders event is a traditional cycling club event, the first time trial of the year where riders get to check the results of their winter training programmes against their peers.  Newark Castle’s hard rider course pitted riders not only against other riders, but against the ‘rolling’ 22 mile course starting at South Muskham, along to the A616 to Ollerton and back again.  Setting off at 1 minute intervals, the riders were given some rousing encouragement at the off, so that the onlookers could then rest up with a coffee and a chat at the finish line awaiting the return of the intrepid competitors.  Newark Castle’s own ex-pro Dave Miller was first rider back at just over 59 minutes.  Results: 1. Dave Miller 59mins, 2. James Storr 1hr 1min, 3. Jez Willows 1 hr 2mins, 4. Alf Davies 1hr 9mins, 5. Mark Sawula 1hr 13mins, 6. Daniel Wilson 1hr 14mins, 7. Arnout Andrews 1hr 18mins
