Take off for Amelia

Amelia Chrispin Newark Athletic Club

Saturday saw Amelia Chrispin take part in the first race of the East Midlands 2017 Triathlon Series, the RAF Scampton Duathlon at the home of the world famous Red Arrows.

Traditionally this duathlon has been either very windy, really wet or both in past years, so the very warm spring weather was a welcome surprise. Amelia was competing in the Tristar 2 age group so was racing 1600m run - 6km bike - 600m run.

The hooter for the start of the race went off and Amelia quickly moved to the front of the girls and continued to increase the pace entering the first transition well ahead of her nearest competitor.

She had a great T1 but got nearly got knocked off her bike as she started the bike section by one of  more exuberant male competitors! She quickly recovered her composure and set off on the long  4 lap, 6km bike section. She biked well and none of the other athletes managed to make up any ground on her as she entered transition for the last time still  leading the field. She continued to work hard and crossed the line, after the 600m final run, in first place, over 40 seconds ahead of the next nearest girl. A really strong performance and a great start to the series
