Division One status achieved
The ladies 1st were the only team in action last week starting with a Thursday evening match. With wet courts, both sides started out slow and the sets remained even. A strong Nottingham Castle first pair were unbeatable, but Sue Bilton/Jane Hendley came closest with a tie break which went on till 12-10.
It was Notts Castle that came out on top of the close fought match 10-8 (77-73). Bilton/Hendley 3-3, Tamara Bainbridge/Steph Smith 2-4, Sara Jackson/Annie Davies 3-3.
The team were in action again on Sunday and again played on wet courts between showers. Bilton/Hendley continue their strong form and took all 6 sets, the other couples took 4 each as they couldn’t defeat Mansfield’s first couple.
This result has secured Newark’s place in Div 1 for Summer 2020.
