So close yet so far
Both of Newark Tennis Clubs mixed teams played in their final summer matches this weekend.
On Sat mixed 2nd final summer match was against West Bridgford. There were some new partnerships in place and first couple Katy Dine/Gary Brickles performed well to take 4-0, Annie Walton/Edgars Barvinskis took 1-3 after losing a tie-break against WB thirds and Jill Pinder/Hari Kolli 0-4. The team finish in 4th in short format Div 3.
On Sunday Mixed 1st hosted Lady Bay’s home match. Cptn Sara Jackson was out of action but Sam Smith/Sue Bilton paired well and took 5 sets, James Lalyk/Tamara Bainbridge and Adrian Smith/Steph Smith also took 5 sets each, most points coming from some experienced net play and accurate volleying which Lady Bay couldn’t react quick enough too.
The team were unlucky not to get promoted for the second consecutive year but will take a 3rd place and aim for Div 4 when they play in summer 2020.
