Newark AC were involved in cross country races both days with “National Championships” at Wollaton Park Nottm on Saturday and the Notts mini league final round at Rushcliffe country park on Sunday and some brave runners did both. Illness, injury and school requirements diminished the club turn out slightly but those that made it to the start line did the club proud. The course was sticky in most parts with some rather dramatic water splashes to negotiate.

It was Amber Owens and Eleanor Miller who got things underway at Wollaton and Amber showed her intentions from the start as she led the 270 girls through the first 200 metres eventually to finish in 29th position which was a 51 place improvement from 2016. Eleanor was 219th

Ben Smith finished 78th in the u15 boys race

Ellie White was 81st in the u20 womens race

The u13 girls and boys probably encountering a race of such magnitude for the first time acquitted themselves well.

U13 girls Catherine Booth 343rd, Francesca Ward 442nd , Freya Henshaw 446th

U13 boys Lewis Gillooley-Roger 339th, Duncan Monaghan 418th

In the u15 girls race Lauren Owens was 312th followed closely by Maisie Archer Dytch in 345th.

The u20mens race saw Thomas Hubbard finish 156th.

The ladies saw a race long battle take place between Rebecca Gallop and Chloe Hubbard with Rebecca just coming out on top 125th to 135th.

The last race of the day the senior mens championship resulted in Linton Taylor becoming the highest placed Newark finisher ever when he finished 75th of the 1762 finishers he was backed up by Oli Carrington 219th, Craig Renton 602nd, Tim Bagguley 638th, Gareth Owens 1206th.

Sunday it was back down to local business when the club youngsters took part in the final round of the Notts mini cross country league at Rushcliffe.

The u11girls Niamh Monaghan 15th, Evie Archer Dytch 17th and Beth Wynn-Jones

U11boys Joseph Monk finished 6th and Noah Wilkinson 23rd

The u13 girls saw an emphatic win for Amelia Chrispin resulting her becoming league champion and she was followed homed by Ellie Monaghan 7th and Catherine Booth 14th

U13 boys Peter Mckee 12th and Duncan Monaghan 14th.

In what is there last appearance in the mini league Lauren Owens finished 10th and her twin Tilly 12thbut Freya White who was 14th will be there to lead the team next season

Even though Ben Smith was not running he had amassed enough points in the earlier rounds to be crowned u15 boys champion in his absence.
