two bronze medals for Newark youngsters

Radio Newark Sport at the Notts Cross Country Mini League

Today, ten young members of Newark AC made the journey to Rushcliffe Country Park for the final Nottinghamshire Cross Country Mini League race. It was a sunny but very cold day from start to finish. The first race was as usual for the under 11 girls. Zoe Smith was first to finish in 15th place followed by Harriet Monaghan finishing in 32nd place having competed in all five races in the series. Then we saw the under 11 boys race with Joseph Monk coming home in 3rd place followed by Josh Clee in 9th. The next race was for the under 13 girls and Niamh Monaghan finished in 9th place followed by Beth Wynn-Jones in 21st place. Both girls had competed in all five races. Benjamin Mason was the sole runner for the under 13 boys finishing in 26th place. Our final race saw a team of under 15 girls racing well with Ellie Monaghan coming home in 6th place, Catherine Booth in 9th and Alice Gibbs in 10th place. As this was the final race, awards were presented to winners as individuals or teams. Newark AC saw Joseph Monk winning the bronze award for 3rd place overall and the under 15 girls also winning 3rd team overall. We have fantastic young athletes in Newark, so well done everyone!
