Our guide to the big matches

Newark Flowserve get their new year under way with Teversal visiting Lowfields in the EMCL. After last week's draw with Selston "the works" embark on a run of home matches they simply must take maximum points from while hoping their big rivals come a cropper.

It’s bottom againt top as Newark Town host Clay Cross Town at Station Road. The Damo Parkinson era started with a pre Christmas point at Askern, a 3-3 draw may look good but the Blues gave away a three goal half time lead and any slack defending tomorrow will be punished by the league leaders.

Southwell City travel to Magdala in the Notts Senior League Premier Division, while in Division Two Newark Flowserve Reserves have a trip to Walesby to play second bottom Kirton Brickworks, with maximum points from their last seven matches "the works" second string are closing in on the top of the table.

Notts Youth League under 18 Division three leaders Long Bennington Gold start their year off with a home match against Holy Trinity Celtic, kick off 10.30 at the Queen Elizabeth Playing Fields. Newark Town have slipped to fifth in the table after a poor run of results but three points from their trip to Lowdham should get them back on track.

Newark Rugby Club will be hoping to get their 2019 off to a good start when Dronfield visit Kelham Road. The Blues won the corresponding fixture 25-17 in the September sunshine and a repeat would help climb the table. Remarkably Newark sit seven points off a relagation spot but only eight points from second place in the league. 3.00pm kick off for this one.

The Newark Hockey Club Ladies Ones have a friendly match against West Bridgeford, 10.30am pushback.

Its a big weekend for our Cross Country runners with the Notts & Derbyshire combined championships at Wollaton Park, look out for Joseph Monk and Amelia Chrispin at this one while twenty four hours later it will be the turn of the Lincolnshire runners in their championships at Biscathorpe. The twins will running at this event. Also on Sunday the East Midlands XC League gets underway at Bramcote.

Ed Howlett  is in Italy representing team GB in a under twenty international championship, the first of two major championships during January for our young star.

On to Sunday and the Rugby Club under fifteens have a home match with Boston in round three of the NLD Cup.

Newark Lawn Tennis Club get their year underway with a mixed doubles match at Grantham.

If we have missed your event feel free to give it a shout out.
