Youngsters beat the weather

Newark Athletic Club

Not for the first time Newark Athletic Clubs youngsters didn’t let the bad weather beat them, Debbie Monk sent us the following report;

We are very proud of all of our athletes who took part in today's Notts Mini League Cross Country at Rushcliffe Country Park. The conditions were extreme! It was very wet, windy, waterlogged and muddy. Storm Dennis certainly tested us! In the first race for U11 girls, Maisie Mullett finished 6th followed by Jessica Jackson in 44th place.
Isla Picker had a great run taking part as a guest. We're hoping the conditions hasn't put her off for next season . Then we had 6, yes 6, U11 boys in the next race. Eric Unaigwe made his debut and led the boys back in 7th place, followed by Edward Macintyre in 18th who was representing the club as a competing athlete for this first time in this league, Cameron Shivas 28th, Reuben Shivas 30th, Lewis Biggin 42nd and debut runner Alex Donnelly 53rd.

Our U13 girls ran next with Anna Clarke finishing in 18th place, closely followed by Harriet Monaghan in 21st.

In the U13 boys race, Joseph Monk finished 3rd and Ryley Picker 11th which was his highest finish place this season. In the U15 girls, Niamh Monaghan finished in 9th place with Beth Wynn Jones close behind in 12th. At the awards ceremony following the races, Joseph Monk was awarded 2nd place for the series in the U13 boys event and the U13 boys also came 3rd as a team.

A big thank you to the parents who braved the road closures and flooded lanes to deliver your children.  See you all in September!
