Children and families are being invited to get creative this October half-term, with free art workshops offering the chance to have their artwork featured in a spectacular light and sound show celebrating two major milestones in Newark's history.

Newark Town Council is inviting children of all ages to help bring the town's history to life through a series of free creative workshops this October half-term.

The drop-in sessions will take place in Newark Market Place on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October, between 10am and 3pm, giving youngsters the opportunity to create artwork that could feature in a spectacular projection show on the Town Hall next month.

The workshops form part of celebrations marking two significant anniversaries for Newark – 250 years of the Town Hall and 400 years of the town's Mayoralty.

The Grade I listed Town Hall, designed by architect John Carr of York and built in 1776, is regarded as one of the finest Georgian town halls in the country.

As part of the celebrations, the historic building will become the centrepiece of a special light and sound experience on Friday 27 November, between 6pm and 8pm.

Young people attending the workshops will be able to create artwork for consideration as part of the digital projections, with organisers also recording voices to help create a soundscape accompanying the display.

The finished event promises to bring together local creativity, history and technology, transforming one of Newark's most recognisable landmarks into a celebration of the town and its community.

Both workshops are completely free, with no advance booking required.
